Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level roundtable in New York with 15 leading technology CEOs, including Google’s Sundar Pichai and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang. Held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel as part of his U.S. visit, the discussion centered around innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and India’s emerging role in the global tech landscape. The event was hosted by MIT School of Engineering and aimed to strengthen collaboration between the U.S. and India in key technology sectors like AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology.

The roundtable formed a crucial part of PM Modi’s three-day visit to the United States, with its second phase taking place in New York. Organized in partnership with MIT School of Engineering, the meeting provided an opportunity for Indian leadership to engage with the global tech community on advancements in innovation and explore ways to deepen the U.S.-India partnership in technology.

Prominent CEOs in attendance included Sundar Pichai from Google, Jensen Huang from Nvidia, and Shantanu Narayen from Adobe. These leaders, who oversee companies at the forefront of innovation, were key participants in discussing the future of technology and India’s potential to play a larger role in the global economy.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his optimism about the discussions, saying, “Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation, and more. The roundtable was largely centered around advancements in AI, quantum computing, biotechnology, and semiconductor technology, sectors that are expected to shape the future of innovation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted in a statement that the discussions touched upon how these technologies can revolutionize industries globally and benefit both the Indian and global populations.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to highlight India’s technology policies, especially in AI, where the focus is on “AI for All,” promoting ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence. This aligns with India’s broader vision of leveraging AI for the public good, emphasizing inclusivity and responsibility.

In addition to AI, the session focused on quantum computing and semiconductor technologies—two sectors that are critical in driving the next wave of technological evolution. The Prime Minister reassured the CEOs that India remains committed to protecting intellectual property, fostering innovation, and creating a conducive environment for technological growth.

The roundtable also explored opportunities for American companies to invest in India’s startup ecosystem. With India’s rapidly expanding tech market, startups are becoming a key entry point for global players to develop new technologies and solutions. PM Modi encouraged the attending CEOs to seize the opportunity of India’s growth trajectory, stating that the country is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world.

MIT Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, who chaired the session, expressed gratitude to PM Modi and the participants for their valuable contributions. He emphasized MIT’s dedication to fostering technology that benefits global good and promoting further collaboration between the U.S. and India in critical technological fields.

PM Modi’s roundtable with top tech CEOs was a significant step toward enhancing technological collaboration between India and the U.S. The discussions, which revolved around AI, quantum computing, and other frontier technologies, underscored India’s growing importance in the global tech landscape. As India continues to make strides in innovation, partnerships like these could be instrumental in propelling the nation towards its ambitious goal of becoming a leading tech hub.
