Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a speech in the Rajya Sabha today, following his extensive two-hour address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Lok Sabha has adjourned since after the Prime Minister’s speech on July 2. However, the Rajya Sabha will continue its debate on the motion of thanks in response to the President’s Address to both Houses of Parliament from last week. “Heated exchanges between the ruling and opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected in the Rajya Sabha during PM Modi’s address on Wednesday.”
Throughout the Prime Minister’s speech in the Lok Sabha, opposition MPs continuously shouted slogans such as ‘Justice for Manipur’ and ‘Bharat Jodo’. Despite these interruptions, PM Modi persisted in delivering his address. He accused the Congress and its ‘ecosystem’ of insulting Hindus and plotting a ‘conspiracy’ to falsely portray Hindus as violent.
PM Modi urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take stern action against the events of Monday, which he described as a “slap on the wisdom of our people and our great national traditions.” Without directly naming Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister referred to the Leader of the Opposition’s (LoP) speech in the Lok Sabha on July 1. In his speech, Rahul Gandhi harshly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for an alleged ‘assault’ on the idea of India.
In his inaugural speech as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi used posters of religious figures, including Lord Shiva, to target the ruling party. Parts of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks were later expunged from the parliamentary records on July 2.
The 18th Lok Sabha’s first session, which commenced on June 24, included seven sittings. During the first two days, 539 Lok Sabha members took their oaths or made affirmations. The Rajya Sabha is also anticipated to be adjourned sine die following PM Modi’s address on Wednesday.
As Prime Minister Modi prepares to address the Rajya Sabha today, all eyes are on the potential confrontations between the ruling and opposition parties. His speech follows a contentious session in the Lok Sabha, marked by significant opposition disruptions. The political atmosphere is charged, promising a lively debate in the Rajya Sabha.
