In a significant move to ease the financial burden on residents and farmers, Maharashtra has reduced fuel prices in the Mumbai region. This announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during the state Budget presentation on June 28.

Maharashtra has lowered fuel prices in the Mumbai region by Rs 2 per litre for diesel and by 65 paise per litre for petrol, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar announced while presenting the state Budget on June 28.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said, “Tax on diesel is being decreased from 24% to 21% for the Mumbai region, effectively 2 rupees per litre less prices of diesel. In the Mumbai region, tax on Petrol being decreased from 26% to 25% which will effectively decrease rates of petrol by 65 Paise per litre.” Diesel and petrol will now be cheaper in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and the Thane region of Maharashtra.

The budget announcement also includes a waiver of electricity bills for 44 lakh farmers, along with a promise of three free LPG cylinders every year to poor families. These measures aim to provide substantial financial relief to both urban and rural populations across the state. 

Maharashtra is heading towards elections later this year to elect its state legislative assembly, though the final dates have not been announced yet.
