In a shocking incident, at least 35 students fell ill after allegedly finding a lizard in their breakfast at a government hostel in Telangana’s Medak district on Tuesday. The students from TG Model School in Ramayampet experienced alarming symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea after consuming their meals.

School officials acted swiftly, providing immediate medical assistance and transporting the affected students to a nearby hospital. “A cook and an assistant cook were terminated for alleged negligence while the caretaker and the Special Officer of the hostel were served show cause notices,” stated the Medak District Educational Officer (DEO).

Preliminary investigations indicate that a lizard might have accidentally fallen into the food during its preparation. Health officials have collected samples for analysis to confirm the cause of the contamination. The DEO, in a report submitted to higher authorities, including the District Collector, mentioned that the incident came to light when a student noticed a “lizard” in the upma served during breakfast.

Parents and residents are understandably alarmed by the incident, demanding stricter hygiene measures in school kitchens to prevent such hazardous occurrences. The school management has assured them of a thorough investigation and has pledged to take necessary actions to ensure such incidents do not happen again.

This incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene standards in school hostels, prompting an urgent call for reforms. The health and safety of students are paramount, and such negligence must be addressed with stringent measures to prevent any future occurrences.

The health scare at the Telangana hostel serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety in educational institutions. Ensuring the well-being of students is a collective responsibility that requires strict adherence to safety protocols. If you have concerns about food safety in your child’s school, do not hesitate to voice them to the school authorities.

Stay informed about school safety measures. If you notice any lapses in hygiene or food safety, report them immediately to ensure a safe environment for all students. Your vigilance can make a difference!
