In a tragic incident early this morning, two people lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries when approximately 18 coaches of a Mumbai-bound train derailed in Jharkhand. The Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, roughly 80 km from Jamshedpur, at around 3:45 am. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately upon notification of the derailment, and rescue and relief operations are currently ongoing, according to officials.
“Two people were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo. Rescue operations are on and an NDRF team is rushing to the spot,” stated West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is present at the accident site.
Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan reported that a goods train had also derailed nearby, though it remains unclear whether the two incidents are related. Of the 18 derailed coaches, 16 were passenger coaches, one was a power car, and one was a pantry car.
The injured were initially given first aid by the Railways’ medical team and have now been transported to Chakradharpur for more comprehensive treatment. The precise cause of the derailment is still under investigation, officials confirmed.
