Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are bracing for torrential rains as Cyclone Fengal edges closer to the southeastern coastline. Schools in several districts have been shut as a precautionary measure, while weather authorities issue warnings of heavy downpours and potential disruptions. The regional government has urged residents to remain indoors and stay alert for updates on the evolving situation.

“Officials have forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next 48 hours.” The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes the extreme weather conditions to Cyclone Fengal, which has been intensifying over the Bay of Bengal. Coastal areas are on high alert, with emergency response teams stationed in vulnerable zones.

According to local authorities, the cyclone is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 70 km/h, accompanied by thunderstorms. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea, while local disaster management teams prepare to handle evacuations if necessary.

Residents have been advised to stock essential supplies and adhere to safety protocols. Emergency helplines have also been activated in key districts to assist citizens in need.
