The scheme, “Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana,” will provide a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to eligible women aged 21 to 60 years, starting in July, ahead of the state elections in October.

VAT Reduction on Fuel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region

In a move to reduce the burden of fuel costs, the Maharashtra government has slashed the value-added tax (VAT) on fuel in the Mumbai metropolitan region. This reduction will lower petrol prices by 65 paise per litre and diesel prices by Rs 2.60 per litre.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar made this announcement during the presentation of the annual state budget. This decision, which will take effect on July 1 after the budget is passed, will cost the state exchequer Rs 200 crore. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed the VAT cut proposal.

Continued Support for Milk Producers

Ajit Pawar, while presenting the budget, stated that Rs 223.83 crore in subsidies has already been distributed to 2.93 lakh registered milk producers at a rate of Rs 5 per litre. The remaining subsidies will be distributed immediately.

Furthermore, new schemes will be launched to promote sheep and poultry rearing, with adequate funds allocated for establishing fish markets.

Approval for 18 New Medical Colleges

Pawar also announced the establishment of 18 new medical colleges across the state. These colleges, each with a capacity of 100 students and 430-bed hospitals, will be set up in 18 districts. Additionally, a Unani medical college will be established in Raigad and an Ayurveda college in Buldhana district.
