An Indian Army soldier was killed and four others, including a captain, were injured as they successfully foiled an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) on Saturday in the Kamakari sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, military sources revealed to PTI.
In the fierce exchange of gunfire, a Pakistani intruder was also killed. The BAT typically includes special forces personnel from the Pakistan Army and terrorists. “Action by Border Action Team has been foiled by alert Indian Army troops on Saturday morning in Kamakari sector,” one source stated. “One Pakistani intruder has been killed,” the source added.
The confrontation involved three intruders who hurled a grenade and opened fire on a forward post near the Kumkadi post in the Trehgam sector of the north Kashmir district. Indian troops responded swiftly, leading to a prolonged gunfight.
During the clash, five soldiers were injured, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries. The wounded personnel, including a captain, were swiftly evacuated to a base hospital. The condition of one of the injured soldiers was reported as “critical,” sources informed PTI.
In addition to the Pakistani intruder who was killed, two others managed to flee back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) amid the intense exchange of gunfire. The alertness and bravery of the Indian Army troops prevented what could have been a far more devastating attack.
