Coldplay fans in India are buzzing with excitement as the band returns to Mumbai for the first time since 2016. Due to overwhelming demand, a third show has been added to their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in 2025. However, amidst this excitement, BookMyShow has issued a warning about fake concert tickets being sold on unauthorised platforms. Fans are urged to avoid falling victim to these scams, as ticket scalping is illegal in India.

Coldplay’s announcement of their return to Mumbai has sent fans into a frenzy, with tickets for their concerts on January 18 and 19, 2025, selling out rapidly. The overwhelming response led to technical issues on the ticketing platform BookMyShow, resulting in a brief website crash. To meet the growing demand, the British band added a third show on January 21, 2025, at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium.

BookMyShow, India’s leading entertainment ticketing platform, has been at the forefront of managing the sale of tickets for these much-anticipated concerts. However, the massive traffic caused delays and disruptions, leaving many fans frustrated as they tried to secure their spot at the event. “We implemented a queueing system to manage the overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious and malicious traffic within minutes, causing a brief delay but ensuring minimal disruption for genuine fans,” a BookMyShow spokesperson told ANI.

The surge in demand for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour has been nothing short of extraordinary. As fans flocked to BookMyShow to secure their tickets, the platform’s server experienced heavy traffic, causing temporary crashes. Tickets were supposed to be available at noon, but many users reported being unable to book them even after 12:15 pm.

In response, BookMyShow quickly took action to resolve the issue. The platform introduced a virtual queue to manage the overwhelming traffic, ensuring that genuine fans had access to the tickets. The immediate response from BookMyShow helped minimise disruptions and eventually allowed fans to complete their purchases. The addition of the third show was a welcome relief to many who had missed out on the initial two dates.

While the excitement for the concerts has been palpable, it has also given rise to an alarming issue—ticket scams. BookMyShow and its live events division, BookMyShow Live, issued a joint statement on Instagram, warning fans about the dangers of purchasing tickets from unauthorized platforms. The post read, “It has come to our attention that unauthorised platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law. Please don’t fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets. Avoid scams! BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales.”

The platform emphasized that fans should only purchase tickets from official channels to avoid getting scammed. Fake tickets not only ruin the concert experience for fans but also contribute to the illegal practice of ticket scalping, which is a punishable offense under Indian law.

Fans have expressed their concerns on social media, sharing screenshots of long waiting times and frozen screens during the ticket purchase process. Despite these initial challenges, most fans have been supportive of BookMyShow’s efforts to handle the overwhelming demand, praising the platform for adding an extra show to accommodate the huge interest in Coldplay’s return to India.

As the buzz around Coldplay’s Mumbai concerts grows, it’s crucial for fans to be cautious when purchasing tickets. BookMyShow remains the only authorised seller for these events, and fans are advised to steer clear of unauthorised platforms to avoid scams. “Please don’t fall prey to fake tickets,” BookMyShow reiterated. With the additional third show and improved measures for handling demand, fans can look forward to an unforgettable experience when Coldplay takes the stage in January 2025.
