The much-anticipated sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, has taken the Indian box office by storm even before its official release. With over 12 lakh tickets sold and an advance booking revenue of Rs 36.77 crore as of Tuesday morning, Sukumar’s directorial masterpiece is already creating waves. The film, set to release on December 5, is positioned to break records and potentially dethrone RRR for the highest opening-day collection by an Indian film.

A Wildfire at the Box Office

When Allu Arjun’s iconic character Pushpa Raj declared that he had evolved from being merely a “flower” and “fire” to “wildfire,” the sentiment resonated beyond marketing slogans. The pre-release numbers are a testament to the overwhelming anticipation. The domestic market alone has contributed over Rs 30 crore in ticket sales, with nearly two days still to go before the first screening. The Telugu 2D version leads the chart, generating Rs 18.01 crore from 5,10,489 tickets across 4,014 shows. The Hindi version follows with Rs 12.30 crore from 4,28,243 tickets for 12,561 shows. Other regional languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada, collectively added approximately Rs 2 crore to the tally.

 Fastest 1 Million Tickets Sold

In a historic feat, Pushpa 2: The Rule has become the fastest movie to sell 1 million tickets on BookMyShow. “Pushpa 2 has surpassed the 1 million ticket mark on BookMyShow quicker than Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, K.G.F.: Chapter 2, and even the much-anticipated Kalki 2898 AD,” stated Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow. Major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Pune have witnessed a frenzy of bookings as fans rush to secure their seats for the first-day first-show experience.

 Eyeing RRR’s Opening-Day Record

Director SS Rajamouli’s RRR currently holds the record for the highest opening-day collection by an Indian film, amassing Rs 223 crore worldwide. Its advance booking revenue stood at Rs 58.73 crore. Given the meteoric rise of Pushpa 2’s advance bookings, analysts predict that the film could potentially challenge RRR’s record. However, its place among India’s top-grossing films, including Dangal (Rs 2,070.3 crore), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1,788.06 crore), RRR (Rs 1,230 crore), KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 1,215 crore), and Jawan (Rs 1,160 crore), remains to be seen.

 A Mega-Budget Spectacle

Mounted on a massive budget exceeding Rs 400 crore, Pushpa 2: The Rule is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The original film, produced on a budget of Rs 150 crore, grossed Rs 350.1 crore worldwide. The sequel brings back fan-favorites Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, and Sunil. Joining the cast this time are Jagapathi Babu and Prakash Raj, adding more star power to the ensemble.

Pushpa 2: The Rule has already cemented its place as a cinematic event to remember, breaking advance booking records and stirring excitement across the nation. As the release date approaches, all eyes are on whether the film can outdo its predecessors and claim its spot among the highest-grossing Indian films.
