A 20-year-old woman from Taloja suffered a tragic accident on Monday morning at CBD Belapur Railway Station, resulting in the loss of her legs. Rohini Rajesh Bote (20) was waiting on platform number 3 when she suddenly fell onto the tracks just before the Panvel-Thane train arrived. Despite the train’s attempt to stop, one coach had already run over her.

“Two Railway Police Force staff who were at the station rushed to rescue her. The motorman reversed the train and the RPF pulled the lady out from beneath the train. Both her legs were severed in the accident, and she has been admitted to MGM hospital in CBD Belapur for further treatment,” stated Police Inspector Pravin Padvi from Panvel Government Railway Police. According to the police, Bote, in her statement, said she suddenly felt dizzy and fell off the platform as the train approached. Bote, who works as a house help, was returning home after work when the incident occurred around 10.03 am.

“She works as a house help in CBD Belapur. Usually, she takes the bus home, but due to heavy rain on Monday morning, she decided to take the train to Kharghar and then a shared auto-rickshaw to Taloja. Just before the train arrived, she fell onto the tracks. We have made a diary entry at the GRP station,” Padvi added.

The police are uncertain why she was standing on platform number three, where the Panvel-Thane train arrives, as she intended to go to Kharghar. “In the CCTV footage, her face is not clear, so it’s unclear whether she fell accidentally or jumped onto the tracks. Our priority was to save the lady and take her to the hospital as soon as we learned of the incident. The GRP handled the further procedures,” an RPF official from CBD Belapur Railway Station stated.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of safety and awareness at railway stations. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Stay vigilant and always prioritize safety when using public transport.
