Major Flight Disruptions at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 After Roof Collapse

A tragic incident unfolded at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 on Friday when the roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to five others. Several cars were damaged as debris fell from the roof, and the area was inundated, causing significant traffic disruptions.

Flights at Terminal 1 have been suspended until further notice, and alternative arrangements are being made to ensure smooth operations.

“Heavy rain early in the morning has resulted in the collapse of the canopy of Delhi Airport Terminal 1. As a result of which flights to & from Terminal 1 have been closed till further notice. Alternate arrangements are being made for smooth operation of the flights,” said the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a statement.

All planned arrivals for Terminal 1 continued until 10:30 AM. Subsequently, all arrival and departure flights have been reassigned as follows: 

SpiceJet: All arrivals and departures initially scheduled for Terminal 1 are now redirected to Terminal 3.

IndiGo Flights Update

“Due to the unforeseen situation at T1 this morning, all flights from Delhi Airport T1 have been canceled until 12:00 AM, June 29. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible.”

Delhi Airport Roof Collapse: Metro Stations Affected

The entry and exit points of the Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 Metro station have been closed due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, the shuttle service between Aerocity Metro station and Terminal 1-IGI Airport has been discontinued until further notice. Other metro lines continue to operate as usual.

Traffic Operations

Videos and photos circulating on social media show vehicles stuck on waterlogged roads, adding to the chaos around the airport.

Rain Lashes Indian Capital

Heavy rains lashed Delhi early on Friday, causing extensive waterlogging across the city. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 153.7 mm of rainfall starting around 3 AM. According to the India Meteorological Department, very heavy rain is defined as rainfall between 124.5 and 244.4 mm in a single day.
