The thing that hurts me is that I didn’t have my fill of the thing I love the most—acting,” expressed Swara Bhasker.
New Delhi: Acclaimed actress Swara Bhasker, known for her roles in films like Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa, and Anarkali of Aarah, has recently opened up about how her outspoken nature and strong political views have adversely affected her career. In a candid conversation with Connect Cine, Swara revealed, “I am tagged as a controversial actor. Directors, producers, and distributors start speaking ill of you. Aapki ek image ban jati hai (an image is formed). It’s not that it doesn’t worry me, but I have managed to stay afloat, but the thing that hurts me is that I didn’t have my fill of the thing I love the most—acting.”
Elaborating on the impact, she added, “You can say, ‘I can take a bullet in a war’ but when you take a bullet, it does hurt. So my opinions have had consequences. Before my daughter Raabiyaa was born, acting was my biggest passion and my greatest love. I loved acting and practicing. I wanted to do so many roles and acting assignments. I didn’t get as many chances as I wanted. There is a cost to not getting so many acting projects, including financial and emotional ones. There is reputational anxiety.”
Swara, along with her husband Fahad, welcomed their baby daughter last year. Sharing this joyous moment, the new mom posted pictures of their baby girl and herself with Fahad on social media, captioning them, “A prayer heard, a blessing granted, a song whispered a mystic truth. Our baby girl, Raabiyaa, was born on September 23, 2023. With grateful and happy hearts, thank you for your love! It’s a whole new world.”
In conclusion, while Swara Bhasker’s journey has been challenging due to her outspokenness, she continues to stay resilient and embrace her new role as a mother. Her story is a powerful reminder of the costs that come with standing up for one’s beliefs, both professionally and personally.
