The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a partly cloudy sky with a chance of thunderstorms or lightning accompanied by drizzle at one or two places on June 15.
As Northern India eagerly awaits the onset of the monsoon for relief from the heat waves, most southern and northeastern states have been experiencing continuous rainfall over the past few days due to the early arrival of the Southwest monsoon. This year, some states, including Maharashtra and Kerala, witnessed monsoon rains earlier than expected. Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and West Bengal have already seen monsoon showers.
Where will the monsoon make an impact in the coming days?
According to the IMD weather report dated June 14, the southwest monsoon is set to advance in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar over the next four days. The weather agency also predicted heatwave conditions in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi until June 18.
Delhi Weather
The IMD has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in Delhi until June 18. Following this period, conditions are expected to improve, with a yellow alert set to take place. The maximum temperature in the national capital during this time is anticipated to reach around 45 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees above the normal temperature. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature will settle at 31 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the normal temperature.
The IMD forecast for June 15 predicts a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning accompanied by drizzle at one or two places in the afternoon or evening. Additionally, heatwave conditions are expected in many areas, with dust-raising gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph during the day. According to the extended weather forecast, rainfall is expected in Delhi on June 20.
What do the experts say?
IMD scientist Soma Sen stated on June 13: “If we talk about North India, there has not been much change in the weather,” reported ANI. The IMD scientist noted that the heatwave condition over northern India “is happening because of the possibility of easterly winds and the potential impact of a western disturbance. Therefore, we expect heat waves to decrease slightly in North India, especially in eastern parts like UP. The situation would be similar in the rest of the states.”
As the heatwave persists, Delhi residents eagerly anticipate the cooling monsoon rains. Stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and prepare for potential weather changes in the coming days.
